Montana Film Festival Roadshow Presents – The Ballad of Lefty Brown

Filmed entirely in Dillon and Ennis Montana, the star-studded new Western from writer/director Jared Moshé, The Ballad of Lefty Brown, comes home to Montana.

When cowboy Lefty Brown (Bill Pullman) witnesses the murder of his longtime partner – the newly-elected Senator Edward Johnson (Peter Fonda) – he strikes out to find the killers and avenge his friend’s gruesome death. Tracking the outlaws across the vast and desolate Montana plains, Lefty recruits a young gunslinger, Jeremiah (Diego Josef), and an old friend, a hard-drinking U.S. Marshall (Tommy Flanagan), to help deliver the men to justice. After a gunfight with the outlaws leaves Jeremiah wounded, Lefty returns home with the names of Johnson’s killers only to find that he is being accused of his friend’s murder. With the tables turned, and with his friend in the governor’s mansion (Jim Caviezel) refusing to help, Lefty must evade the law and prove his innocence by exposing the powerful men ultimately responsible for Johnson’s death. A thrilling and action-packed Western, The Ballad of Lefty Brown is a story about loyalty, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of justice. Starring Bill Pullman, Jim Caviezel, Peter Fonda, Kathy Baker, Tommy Flanagan, and Joe Anderson.

The Ballad of Lefty Brown had its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival in March 2017. Indiewire calls the film, “Glorious…director Jared Moshé resurrects the big screen possibilities of the western genre.”

Rated R (for some language and violence), 111 mins.

An estranged father and son are forced to rely on one another to survive an unforgiving wilderness in this riveting, richly emotional thriller. Once a year, fourteen-year-old David (Josh Wiggins) travels from his mother’s home in Texas to visit his loner father, Cal (Matt Bomer), in the remote mountains of Montana. There, the two embark on their annual hunting excursion, during which the taciturn Cal attempts to connect with his smartphone-addicted son. But when a terrifying turn of events leaves Cal critically wounded, it’s up to the teenage David to summon enough strength for both of them. Infused with a deep reverence for the rugged beauty and harsh realities of the Montana landscape, Walking Out is both a tense survival saga and a disarmingly moving father-son tale— a story of connection, primal knowledge, and the true path to adulthood.
